Coupler testing Specification, Criteria and Standards as per BS 8110 British Code - BS 8110  - Structural use of concrete BS 8110 Type of Test Required Why ! (purpose of the test) What is the Criteria ? Static tensile strength test Tensile strength of the Rebar joint (Rebar to Coupler Splice) joint   > 1.15fy & Bar break (100%fu)   Slip Test   Used to make sure that the plastic movement (slip) between the reinforcement bars with in the Mechanical Splice, when Loaded in tension <=0.10mm  after applying  0.6fy  loading   Maximum % Elongation     0.1 mm after applying 0.6 fy loading   BS 8110 British Code has lower acceptance criteria as compared to the ACI code,  It specifies tensile testing and slip test for the joint for acceptance of the sample.

Reinforcement Couplers

What are Reinforcement Coupler's Reinforcement Coupler's are used to join Reinforcement bar's that are used in Reinforced concrete structures, as a replacement for conventional lapping method of joining Reinforcement bar's. Mechanical Splice / Coupler's are  mechanical connections between two pieces of reinforcing steel that enable the bars to behave in a manner similar to continuous lengths of reinforcing steel bars. Mechanical splice join rebar end-to-end, provides many advantages of a continuous piece of rebar. Mechanical Splice  system is used in connecting Reinforcement Bar of respective/ different diameter using the respective Coupler's as per applications and standards/criteria.
